A kolam is a traditional South Indian drawing practice made by placing dots in a grid and connecting them with a single, continuous line. Drawn daily at the thresholds of homes with rice powder on wet pavement, kolams are ephemeral by nature.
Built on rules of symmetry and repetition, kolams function as generative systems that have held personal significance for me through watching my grandmother draw them everyday.
